A Post About Leashes…

“But my dog is too crazy…”

“My dog won’t sit still…”

“I can’t take the leash off of them…”

Are these things you’ve said when considering getting photos of your dog done that have made you hammer on the breaks and not do it?

Never fear, Andrea’s skills are here!

Frida stylin’.

Did you know that Dalmatians are one of the highest energy dogs out there? I didn’t, until I met Frida, the adorable little ball of energy. The craziest part, is that she never tired while we were shooting, in fact, she seemed to get more energetic! We’d done some shooting in studio and then proceeded to shoot in the client’s yard and just like the energizer bunny, she kept going and going and going!

While this particular shoot was in an enclosed yard, it’s not uncommon for me to shoot in public areas. And I would never ever ever forgive myself if I was working with a dog without a leash and they wound up getting loose and getting hit by a car because of it. So my rule of thumb is to not risk it. As you can see here, besides the other edits for contrast and colour, I took the leash right out of the scene. This is something that I do frequently with dogs, ensuring the safety of the pup as we go!

Luna - Pupper About Town!

While Luna is not as filled with puppy energy as she was when I first met her three years ago, she is still a curious dog, and being small and low doesn’t stop puppers from picking up speed when they want to. This was shot in a back alley and while it was not busy, there were definitely still cars around. Notice, also, the size of the leash. This is closer to a show leash. I bring it along with me on shoots because it’s often easier to photoshop out of a scene so that you can focus on your loveable fur-ball!
